A beautifully detailed late Victorian brooch depicting two enamelled fish curving towards pearl-set scallop shells—a miniature marine composition brought to life in gold, colour and soft natural lustre.
Dating to circa 1890–1900, the brooch is crafted in professionally tested 18ct yellow gold and decorated with richly coloured translucent enamel. The fish shimmer in graduated shades of red and orange, with individually defined scales, golden heads and vivid green eyes. Their sweeping forms frame two pink enamel scallop shells, each centred with a natural seed pearl.
Delicate green enamel accents complete the composition, adding contrast and movement. The balanced arrangement of fish, shells and pearls reflects the late Victorian fascination with the natural world while anticipating the flowing, organic character of early Art Nouveau jewellery.

The brooch is unsigned and bears no visible gold hallmark; the gold content has been professionally tested. Its distinctive composition closely resembles a signed brooch by the London jeweller Alfred Phillips, dated circa 1895. The comparable piece features pink enamel scallop shells set with pearls between two enamelled fish. This resemblance is noted for reference only, and the present brooch is not attributed to Alfred Phillips.
