Art Deco Platinum French-Cut Sapphire & Old European-Cut Diamond Bar Brooch | c.1920s

An elegant Art Deco bar brooch combining vivid blue sapphires, antique diamonds and finely worked platinum in a beautifully balanced geometric design.

Dating to circa the 1920s, this exceptionally slender brooch is crafted in professionally tested platinum. Measuring almost 10cm in length yet only 4mm wide, its elongated linear form is characteristic of the refined geometric aesthetic of the Art Deco period.

The brooch is set with 12 natural sapphires, each measuring approximately 3 × 3mm, arranged in two symmetrical sections. The sapphires display the distinctive French cut, with crisp geometric facets that create rich flashes of vivid blue. Their combined weight is estimated at approximately 1.30ct.

Complementing the sapphires are 16 natural Old European-cut diamonds, each measuring approximately 3mm in diameter, with an estimated total weight of approximately 1.60ct. Their softly individual antique cuts and lively fire contrast beautifully with the saturated blue sapphires and cool white platinum.

A particularly beautiful detail is the craftsmanship along the sides of the brooch. The slender platinum edges are decorated with delicate hand-engraved scrolling foliate motifs, adding an unexpected softness to the strong geometric composition of the front.

The reverse retains its traditional long pin fitting. Elegant, architectural and beautifully detailed from every angle, this is a fine example of 1920s Art Deco jewellery, combining French-cut sapphires, Old European-cut diamonds and intricate platinum workmanship.
