A beautiful late Victorian five-stone diamond ring, fully hallmarked in Birmingham in 1892, featuring five natural antique Old Mine Cut diamonds set in warm 18K yellow gold.
The five diamonds are beautifully graduated across the finger, with a central diamond measuring approximately 4.8mm, flanked by two approximately 4.5mm diamonds and two smaller outer diamonds measuring approximately 3.4mm each. Based on their measurements and typical Old Mine Cut proportions, the estimated total diamond weight is approximately 1.30–1.40ct.
Each diamond was individually cut by hand, displaying the distinctive characteristics of antique Old Mine Cuts: high crowns, small tables, individually irregular facet patterns and visible culets. The diamonds are beautifully bright and lively, with the softer, broader flashes of light associated with nineteenth-century hand-cut stones.
The diamonds are held in traditional antique claw settings with an open gallery beneath, allowing the depth and individual character of each old-cut stone to be appreciated from the side.
The inside of the band retains its full British hallmarks, including the Birmingham assay mark and date letter “s” for 1892. These original hallmarks clearly establish the English origin and date of the ring.
A wonderful example of the classic Victorian Five-Stone Ring, combining beautifully bright antique diamonds with an elegant graduated design and exceptionally clear period hallmarks.
