A beautifully warm natural citrine, gently embraced by two finely detailed golden serpents.
Dating to the Victorian era, this elegant antique brooch is crafted in 15ct gold and centred with a generously proportioned natural citrine. Measuring approximately 15 × 11 × 9mm and estimated at around 6.5 carats, the stone has a wonderful presence despite the brooch’s petite overall size.
The citrine displays a distinctive antique multi-faceted cut, with a high crown and deep pavilion. Its generous depth allows light to move beautifully through the stone, revealing shifting tones of golden yellow, warm honey and soft champagne. The broad, individual facets give the gemstone the character and lively play of light associated with antique hand-cut stones.
Surrounding the citrine are two beautifully worked serpents in 15ct gold. Their slender bodies curve around the stone to form an elegant oval frame, with a serpent head positioned at either end. Fine engraved detailing remains visible across the heads and bodies, adding wonderful texture to this small and intricate jewel.
The serpent was one of the most evocative motifs in 19th-century jewellery and became particularly fashionable during the Victorian period. Often associated with eternity, love, loyalty and protection, the paired serpents create a particularly romantic composition — two forms encircling and gently embracing the golden stone.
The citrine has one very small surface pit / minor age-related mark, visible on close inspection. It does not detract from the overall beauty or wearability of the piece and is consistent with its antique age.
