A striking vintage English cocktail ring dating to 1975, featuring a richly coloured natural amethyst surrounded by a sparkling halo of natural diamonds.
Crafted in 18K white gold, the ring retains a full set of British hallmarks, including the London assay mark and date letter “A” for 1975, providing a clear record of its British origin and date.
At the centre is a substantial natural oval-cut amethyst, measuring approximately 14.8 × 11.8 × 6.5mm and estimated to weigh approximately 5.0–5.5 carats. The stone displays beautiful depth of colour, ranging from rich violet and deep purple to softer pinkish-purple tones as it catches the light.
Surrounding the amethyst are 20 natural round diamonds, each measuring approximately 2mm in diameter, with an estimated combined weight of approximately 0.55–0.65 carats. Arranged in a delicate radiating halo, the diamonds provide a bright contrast to the intense purple centre stone.
The elevated openwork basket setting allows light to enter the amethyst from the sides and beneath, while the sculptural white-gold framework gives the substantial setting an elegant and balanced profile.
Bold yet refined, this is a beautiful example of a 1970s British cocktail ring, combining a generously sized coloured gemstone with the brilliance of a classic diamond surround.
