DESCRIPTION
A refined and beautifully preserved pair of Victorian-era Pietra Dura drop earrings, dating to the circa 1880s, exemplifying the elegance and craftsmanship of 19th-century European decorative arts.
These earrings feature the classic Pietra Dura (hardstone inlay) technique, with finely composed floral motifs set against a deep, dark ground. White blossoms and soft green leaves are meticulously inlaid, forming a harmonious and delicate botanical composition. This labor-intensive technique, originating in Italy, was highly prized during the Victorian period and reserved for fine jewellery and luxury objects.
The main oval panels are framed in 15k gold tested, decorated with traditional Victorian beaded and rope-edge detailing, adding depth and texture to the design. The upper screw fittings are crafted in 9k gold, bearing a clear 9CT hallmark, consistent with period-appropriate English construction.
Designed in a graceful double-drop silhouette, the earrings offer gentle movement when worn, enhancing their romantic and antique character. Elegant, balanced, and richly detailed, they are as wearable as they are collectible.
