Georgian REGARD FEDE Ring | Full British Hallmarks | 15ct Gold | Ruby, Emerald, Garnet, Amethyst & Diamond | c.1800s
£2,250.00
A wonderfully romantic Georgian REGARD FEDE ring dating to the early 19th century, crafted in 15ct gold and bearing full British hallmarks, including the 15 and 625 gold marks, together with a Birmingham assay mark.
This charming antique ring combines two of the most beloved sentimental jewellery traditions of the Georgian era: REGARD and FEDE.
The flower-shaped cluster is formed from gemstones whose initials spell the word REGARD:
* R – Ruby
* E – Emerald
* G – Garnet
* A – Amethyst
* R – Ruby
* D – Diamond
During the 18th and 19th centuries, acrostic jewellery became highly fashionable among the European aristocracy. Gemstones were carefully selected to spell hidden messages, allowing the wearer to carry a private sentiment close to their heart.
Equally enchanting are the beautifully modelled FEDE hands, delicately supporting the REGARD flower. Derived from the Latin fides (faith), FEDE jewellery traces its origins to Ancient Rome and became one of the most enduring symbols of love and devotion throughout the Georgian and Victorian periods.
The word REGARD carries a deeper meaning than simple greetings. In sentimental jewellery, it represents affection, remembrance, esteem and heartfelt devotion — a timeless message of:
“With Regards”
Together, the clasped hands and gemstone flower create a powerful symbol of love, friendship, fidelity and lasting commitment.
Elegant, meaningful and exceptionally collectable, this ring is a beautiful survivor from the Georgian era and a wonderful addition to any antique jewellery collection.
