Georgian 18ct Gold Enamel & Diamond Portrait Miniature Pendant, Circa 1780–1800, Original Antique Box

An exquisite late eighteenth-century portrait miniature, framed in rich blue enamel, gold and antique diamonds — quietly gazing across more than two centuries.

Dating to circa 1780–1800, this rare Georgian pendant was handcrafted in 18ct gold and designed in an elegant octagonal form.

At its centre is a finely hand-painted portrait miniature of an aristocratic lady dressed in white. Her tall powdered grey hair is delicately adorned with a row of tiny pearls, while the soft pale-blue background enhances her serene and contemplative expression. Her eyes, hair and gently draped gown have all been rendered with remarkable delicacy.

The miniature is protected beneath thick, gently raised antique glass. Its border is decorated with deep cobalt-blue enamel, fine white enamel detailing and a delicate beaded gold edge.

A series of natural antique-cut diamonds, each held within a silver-toned star-shaped setting, surrounds the portrait like a constellation. The articulated pendant bail continues the blue-and-white enamel decoration and is set with an additional natural diamond, creating a beautifully unified design.

The reverse is finished with a plain gold back, retaining its rich, warm colour and gentle signs of age. The pendant is accompanied by its original fitted antique box.

Why You’ll Love It

This exceptional pendant brings together several of the most desirable elements of Georgian jewellery: intimate portraiture, richly coloured enamel, antique diamonds and finely detailed goldwork.

The octagonal composition is beautifully balanced, while the star-shaped diamond settings create the impression of a constellation surrounding the portrait. Its compact proportions make it elegant enough to wear, yet its age, artistry and original box give it significant appeal as a collector’s piece.

Condition

In good antique condition, with age-related surface wear to the enamel and antique glass consistent with a piece more than two centuries old.

The portrait remains beautifully visible, the enamel retains its rich colour, and the overall structure is well preserved. Please examine all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description.
