Antique Georgian Natural Garnet Pendant in 9ct Gold, c.1820–1840 – Articulated Drops, Original Fitting and Fitted Box

A magnificent early nineteenth-century natural garnet pendant, dating to approximately 1820–1840 and displaying the elaborate symmetry and rich colouring associated with late Georgian jewellery.

Handcrafted in professionally tested 9ct gold, the pendant is set throughout with beautifully matched natural garnets in antique flat cuts. Their deep wine-red colour transforms into vivid crimson when touched by the light, creating a wonderfully rich and luminous effect.

The design resembles an ornate floral crown. Round and pear-shaped garnets radiate from the central stone across an intricate open framework, while four articulated sections descend beneath the main body. The four larger pear-shaped garnets sway gently with movement, giving this dramatic jewel an elegant sense of fluidity.

At the top, three graduated round garnets form the original articulated suspension fitting. This connects to the original pendant bail, extending the composition and allowing the jewel to hang naturally from a chain or ribbon.

The reverse reveals traditional closed-back settings, with each garnet held in its own individually shaped metal mount. The back retains its naturally aged patina and warm oxidation, offering an authentic glimpse of early nineteenth-century craftsmanship.

Remarkably, the pendant is accompanied by its original fitted antique box. The pale velvet interior has been specially shaped to follow the pendant’s ornate crown, upper suspension fitting and four articulated drops. The impression remaining in the velvet closely matches the jewel’s exact form, demonstrating their longstanding relationship.

The box is finished with decorative gold tooling around its border and displays gentle age-related wear consistent with its history. Together, the pendant, original fitting and fitted box form a particularly complete and highly collectable antique jewel.
