Antique Carnelian & Natural Pearl Locket Brooch | 9ct Gold | Circa 1840 | Glazed Keepsake Compartment
£450.00
Warm orange-red carnelian frames a delicate circle of lustrous natural pearls in this charming antique locket brooch. Its softly rounded outline brings together rich colour, gentle reflections and the intimate appeal of a small keepsake jewel.
Estimated to date to circa 1830–1850, spanning the late Georgian to early Victorian period, the brooch features an oval carnelian body with a smooth, polished surface. Its generous outer border allows the central details to stand out, while light passing through the edges reveals the stone’s warm translucency.
Fourteen natural, non-cultured pearls surround the centre. Beautifully full in shape and harmoniously matched in creamy white tones, they display a rich lustre with subtle iridescence. Slight variations in their contours lend individuality to the arrangement, with fine 9ct gold settings adding a gentle warmth between the pearls.
At the centre is an oval antique glass window, its broad surface and bevelled edges catching soft reflections as the brooch moves. An opening locket compartment at the reverse provides a small space for a personal keepsake, adding a quiet sentimental dimension to the piece.
The reverse features a gold framework, a tube hinge and an open C-clasp. Small enough to sit neatly on a collar, scarf or knitwear, this brooch offers a lovely balance of colour, texture and antique character.
