1870 Victorian Sterling Silver Salver with Engraved Birds — Goldsmiths’ Alliance Ltd, London

Six birds in flight, captured in the silver of a Victorian salver.

Dating to 1870 and bearing London hallmarks, this sterling silver salver carries the trade stamp of Goldsmiths’ Alliance Ltd, Cornhill, London.

Its surface is richly engraved with scrolling foliage and floral sprays, among which six birds appear in different poses. Their outstretched wings bring movement to the detailed composition, surrounding a central engraved monogram.

A gently shaped border is finished with beaded edging and leaf accents. Beneath the salver, three claw feet raise it above the table, giving the broad silver surface an elegant sense of lightness.

Measuring approximately 31cm across and weighing approximately 919g, it has a substantial feel. The combination of delicate engraving, sculptural feet and balanced proportions makes it an attractive piece for serving or display.
