2002 Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Sterling Silver Beaker | Grant Macdonald, London
£875.00
A sculptural portrait, flowing ribbons and raised flowers give this small silver beaker a distinctive presence.
Made by Grant Macdonald in London in 2002, this commemorative beaker celebrates the Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, marking fifty years since her accession to the throne in 1952.
The gently tapering body has a lightly hammered surface, contrasting with the richly modelled decoration below. A crowned portrait of the Queen forms the centrepiece, with curling hair, a detailed neckline and surrounding floral ornament.
An undulating ribbon winds through the flowers, bearing the inscription:
“To Commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II”
Repoussé decoration and chased details create varied depths across the surface, catching the light on the raised motifs while leaving soft shadows beneath. Corresponding contours are visible inside the beaker, offering a closer view of its construction.
At approximately 8.5cm high and weighing around 278g, it has a substantial feel for its size. A distinctive example of contemporary British commemorative silver, combining a practical drinking vessel with sculptural decoration.
