DESCRIPTION:
A charming antique pendant from the 1920–30s, finely carved from natural pink tourmaline in the auspicious form of a bat holding a gourd — a classic Chinese motif symbolising fortune and prosperity.
In traditional symbolism, the word “蝠” (fu, bat) sounds like “福” (fu, blessing), while “葫芦” (hulu, gourd) echoes “禄” (lu, prosperity). Together, they convey the heartfelt wish of 福禄双全 — abundant blessings and wealth.
This piece retains its original silk cord, delicately hand-woven with tiny natural seed pearls, and accented by a smooth green agate bead at the top. The craftsmanship is intricate, the polish soft and luminous, showing the elegant artistry of early 20th-century Chinese gemstone carving.
