Victorian Fly Pendant | 15ct Gold, Sapphire, Pearl & Diamond | Rock Crystal Pendant with 9ct Gold Chain
£1,650.00
A wonderfully unusual Victorian pendant dating to the 1870s, crafted in 15ct gold and featuring a beautifully detailed gem-set fly suspended beneath a large faceted natural rock crystal.
The centrepiece is an enchanting fly motif, meticulously decorated with a vivid natural sapphire, lustrous natural pearls and sparkling antique diamonds. Set against the transparent rock crystal, the insect appears almost suspended in mid-air, creating a striking three-dimensional effect that changes beautifully with the light.
Victorian jewellers were fascinated by the natural world, and insects became one of the most distinctive and collectible motifs of the era. This piece perfectly captures that fascination, combining exceptional craftsmanship with the romantic symbolism of nature.
The large faceted rock crystal acts like a miniature display case, magnifying the delicate details of the fly while allowing light to pass through from every angle. The deep royal-blue sapphire forms the body, while natural pearls and diamonds bring softness, brilliance and life to the design.
More than a piece of jewellery, this is a miniature work of Victorian art — elegant, whimsical and increasingly rare to find in such well-preserved condition.
