Victorian 15K Gold Natural Unheated Burmese Ruby Cross Pendant Necklace | Seed Pearls | WGI Certified | c.1855–1865

Some jewels are admired for their gemstones.

Others become treasured for what they represent.

This beautiful Victorian cross pendant dates to the mid-Victorian period, circa 1855–1865, and is a wonderful example of the elegance and symbolism that defined nineteenth-century jewellery.

Handcrafted in solid 15K gold, the cross is set with eleven natural Burmese rubies surrounded by delicate natural seed pearls. Rather than the brilliance of modern cutting, the rubies retain their original nineteenth-century hand-cut faceting, producing a soft, romantic glow that antique collectors cherish.

The rubies have been examined by the World Gemological Institute (WGI), confirming a total weight of approximately 2.35 carats, natural Burmese (Myanmar) origin, with no indication of heat treatment. Finding an antique Victorian jewel preserving a complete suite of natural unheated Burmese rubies is increasingly rare.

Each ruby is framed by luminous natural seed pearls, one of the most beloved decorative elements of Victorian jewellery. During the nineteenth century, seed pearls symbolised purity, innocence, and everlasting love, making them a favourite choice for sentimental and devotional jewels.

Despite its impressive craftsmanship, the cross remains wonderfully delicate, measuring only around 1.5 mm thick. The elegant proportions and refined goldwork demonstrate the remarkable skill of Victorian jewellers, who created jewellery that feels both graceful and timeless.

The pendant is suspended from a matching antique 15K gold chain, bearing its original 15C hallmark and fitted with a traditional Victorian barrel clasp. Together, they create a beautifully balanced necklace that reflects the elegance of its era.

Throughout the Victorian period, cross pendants represented faith, hope, protection, devotion, and eternal love. More than a century and a half later, this exceptional jewel continues to tell its story—ready to become part of someone else’s.
