Late Georgian to Early Victorian 15ct Gold Woven Hair Memorial Ring, circa 1830–1850
£850.00
Seven sections of carefully woven hair are encircled by engraved gold, preserving an intimate nineteenth-century memory in a continuous and beautifully crafted ring.
Dating to approximately 1830–1850, this remarkable memorial ring spans the late Georgian and early Victorian periods. It is handcrafted in 15ct gold and decorated around the entire hoop with seven elongated panels of genuine woven hair.
Each section is framed by finely engraved scrolling foliage and crossed by graceful ribbon-like bands of gold. The dark brown hairwork and warm antique gold create a rich yet restrained contrast, while the unbroken circular design evokes enduring remembrance and affection.
The inside of the band is plain and bears no personal inscription. Without a surviving name or memorial date, its original story remains unknown; nevertheless, its preserved hairwork places it firmly within the tradition of nineteenth-century sentimental and mourning jewellery.
