An exceptionally delicate Edwardian lavalière necklace, beautifully combining natural pearls, antique-cut diamonds and fine goldwork in an elegant, airy design.
Dating to approximately 1905–1915, the necklace is crafted in 14K gold and bears a “14C” mark. Its graceful construction is characteristic of the Edwardian period, when fine chains, openwork settings and gently suspended gemstones were used to create jewellery of remarkable lightness and movement.
The upper section features a beautifully draped double-chain design, punctuated by five small natural pearls of approximately 3mm. At the centre sits a bright Old European Cut natural diamond, approximately 4.5mm in diameter.
Below, a slender openwork drop forms an elongated, almost leaf-shaped frame. Suspended within is a slightly irregular flattened oval natural pearl, measuring approximately 5 × 4.5 × 2mm, accented above by a small Rose Cut diamond.
A second Old European Cut diamond, also approximately 4.5mm in diameter, completes the necklace at the base, creating a beautiful sense of movement when worn.
The diamonds are a combination of Old European Cut and Rose Cut, with an estimated total diamond weight of approximately 0.65ct. Their softer antique brilliance contrasts beautifully with the gentle lustre of the natural pearls and the warm tone of the gold.
Elegant, feminine and wonderfully light in appearance, this is a beautiful example of an Edwardian Lavalière necklace, retaining the delicacy and romantic proportions that made this style so distinctive in the early 20th century.
