Victorian Turquoise Brooch | c.1860s | 15ct Gold | Antique Open Locket Back
£1,665.00
DESCRIPTION
A beautifully crafted Victorian turquoise brooch, dating to the circa 1860s, showcasing the rich decorative style and refined goldsmithing of the mid-19th century.
The brooch is made in 15ct gold (excluding the pin), displaying a warm, mellow tone that has developed a lovely patina over time. At its centre sits a striking cluster of natural turquoise, arranged in a classic Victorian pavé-style setting. The turquoise stones are well-matched in colour, presenting a vivid and harmonious blue that contrasts beautifully with the rich gold setting.
Radiating from the centre, finely sculpted gold elements form a floral and foliate-inspired design, enhanced by delicate texturing and granulated details — hallmarks of Victorian craftsmanship. A subtle articulated drop adds elegance and gentle movement when worn.
The reverse features an original open locket back, complete with its blue fabric lining. This thoughtful and sentimental design reflects the Victorian tradition of jewellery as both adornment and keepsake, often intended to hold a miniature portrait or personal memento.
The piece has been professionally tested to confirm the gold and turquoise, ensuring authenticity and quality.
