DESCRIPTION
A rare and highly collectible Georgian period ruby and diamond ring, dating to the circa 1820s, showcasing exceptional gemstones and authentic early 19th-century craftsmanship.
At the centre is a magnificent natural Burmese ruby from Mogok, displaying a vivid, lively red with subtle pink undertones and strong inner glow. The ruby has been examined by GCS (Gemmological Certification Services) and is accompanied by a full laboratory certificate, confirming:
• Natural ruby
• Origin: Myanmar (Burma – Mogok)
• No indication of heating
Measuring approximately 8.5 × 6.4 mm with an estimated weight of ~2.70 carats, this ruby is notable for both its size and colour, particularly rare within Georgian jewellery.
Diamonds & Setting
Surrounding the ruby are 12 natural antique old mine–cut diamonds, each approximately 3 mm in diameter, with an estimated total weight of ~1.2 carats. These diamonds retain their original hand-cut character, offering soft, lively brilliance that complements the depth of the ruby beautifully.
The ring is set in a traditional Georgian silver-topped gold construction, with diamonds mounted in silver over a gold base — a hallmark technique of the period. The piece bears clear 18K gold hallmarks.
The shank is a later Victorian antique replacement, sympathetically fitted to ensure structural integrity and comfortable modern wear, while preserving the historic integrity of the original Georgian head.
